St. Wenceslaus Catholic School Addition & Renovation

St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church

Omaha, NE

2017 Completion

$3.2 Million

St Wenceslaus Catholic Church is a parish of more than 2,500 families and 900 grade school students.  The steady growth of the parish and increased student enrollment have placed stress on the existing facilities.  St Wenceslaus approached BCDM to help in alleviating this issue by developing a design for a three-section school addition.

The two-story addition provides an additional six (6) classrooms (with two grade levels on each floor).  The 1st and 2nd grade levels are reserved for the main floor with the 3rd and 4th grade levels located on the second floor.  Classrooms are sized for an average class size of 30 students and are a minimum of 875 square-feet. The addition also provides a two-story storm shelter that can house the student occupancy from each level of the new addition.

The existing 1st through 4th grade classrooms have been repurposed as 5th through 8th grade classrooms.  Classrooms located in the Church’s lower level have been repurposed to meeting rooms utilized for Church activities as classes will be relocated upstairs; this provides the church with the ability to have complete separation of Church and School related spaces.

Along with the addition of new classrooms, this project also updates restrooms located in the existing south classroom wing.  The existing restrooms have been repurposed as staff restrooms and new student restrooms.  New student restrooms have an open wash area increasing visibility to and supervision of students.

This project provides St. Wenceslaus staff and students a safe and comfortable environment for academics and opens the door for future young minds to be a part of the parish with the deep values of the Catholic faith.
