Westport School has added 54,000 square-feet to an existing facility.  Along with classrooms dedicated to science, art and music, the addition offers technology and computer-based classrooms, a multipurpose gym, a competition-sized basketball court and platform for ceremonial use and performances. Adjacent to the elementary school gym is a new middle school commons and an area for administration offices.

To discourage cross-grade bullying and intimidation, the classrooms and learning spaces of the middle school are separate from the elementary school. Any shared commons space such as the cafeteria, drop-off lanes and park are in strong visual control from the administrative offices.

A city park and public pool are near the school. Springfield Public Schools and Greene County Parks have agreed to share the facilities, allowing students to use the park’s ball fields and natural amenities. The school’s gym will also be available to Greene County Parks after school hours.

Initial project and design concepts were based on district-wide input.
