Wentworth-Douglass Hospital

Dover, NH

2012 Completion

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital is one of the largest acute care hospitals in the Seacoast Region of New Hampshire and Southern Maine which strives to meet the medical needs of the community it serves while the patient remains the primary focus in providing compassionate and comprehensive care.  The hospital’s site is nestled within the community and surrounding preserved “Wetlands”.  A conceptual geographic theme conveys this story throughout the facility.

This four story addition aided in resolving several facility concerns including critical bed shortage, room size and amenities restriction, door widths, minimized Pediatric unit, overflow of maternity patients and lack of isolation rooms.

One is greeted on the second level with sculpted glass signifying the “Tree of Life” with a pregnant woman and children at play amongst the “Mystic Meadow”.

Continuing the conceptual themes, the third level features the “Oasis of the Sea” while the fourth level represents the “Horizon of the Sunset”.  Both are Medical Surgery Units with all private universal rooms.
