Grand Portage Heritage Center

Grand Marias, MN

2006 Completion

$3 Million

After almost five decades of negotiation, Grand Portage Bank tribal leaders were able to sway the federal government to fully fund their Heritage Center. BCDM worked to celebrate the Ojibwe heritage, which can be seen not only in the building’s orientation to Lake Superior and the Grand Portage National Monument, but also in the pine pillars that rise from the basement and point in the Four Cardinal Directions important in Ojibwe culture.  The Heritage Center contains multiple exhibits, presentation rooms, Ojibwe craft demonstration areas, a research library, Information desks, Park Staff Administrative Areas and artifact storage.
