St. Lawrence Catholic Church Parish Center & Narthex Addition

St. Lawrence Catholic Church

Carroll, IA

2012 Completion

$2.4 Million

St. Lawrence Catholic Church is a faith-filled parish in need of a larger facility to create opportunities for fellowship and parish events. Fellowship is an important aspect of the Catholic faith. As a community of believers, it is important that a parish comes together to pray, share, and worship. The parish desired a new Gathering Space and Social Hall to facilitate these encounters.

It was important for BCDM Architects to create a space that blended the new addition with the existing church. The new entry could not diminish the character of the existing but also needed to increase the gathering space before entering the main sanctuary.

A new social hall was designed to accommodate 216 seats, restrooms, and a kitchen between the existing church and the rectory. Adjacent to the social hall is an outdoor courtyard surrounded by a traditionally-styled covered walkway. A new main entry and narthex connect the new parish center and multi-purpose family room to the church.  The location of the new center on the existing site creates space for a prayer garden adjacent to the church.
