Ryan Davelaar
Architecture Intern
Ryan is a part of a professional development model that fosters design and construction career pathways known as the Apprentice Academy. This program provides participants with actual projects to integrate purposefully applied academics with real-world practice experiences. These experiences are structured in a sequential way that accelerates their pathway concurrently with their secondary and post-secondary academic tracks. Ryan is one of ten college interns in an architecture program at either the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Kansas State, or Iowa State.
We at BCDM are happy to add him to the Apprentice Academy and BCDM this summer.

How did you become interested in this field?
I was a creative kid growing up and would draw nearly every moment I could. I loved being able to take what’s in my imagination and make it real. After taking classes in middle school that explored architectural design, I recognized that architecture is incredibly powerful and has the ability to influence and improve the lives of people in countless ways.
What is one of your biggest accomplishments?
One of my greatest academic achievements was being selected in my studio as representative in a school-wide design competition. As a finalist, I was able to have a unique experience of presenting my project to a panel of judges, my peers, friends, and family.
