Sunlit and Secure
The new middle school addition houses grades sixth through eighth and is thoughtfully divided into grade-specific “neighborhoods” that give each grade their own sense of place. Each grade “neighborhood” features a versatile breakout room designed for various activities like group work, studying, or hanging out before or after school. A key aspect of the design was maximizing natural light, achieved by clerestory windows and strategically placed light fixtures that flood the spaces with daylight. Safety was also a top priority, with the addition featuring a single, long corridor that allows staff to maintain clear visibility throughout the school and ensures quick access in case of emergencies.
A Performing Arts Center Designed for All
The newly built performing arts center was designed as a district-wide resource, ensuring equal access for students of all ages. Though physically connected to the middle school, the Performing Arts Center is strategically located to the north of the middle school to mitigate circulation through the academic spaces of middle school and to create a performative theatrical environment for show-goers and all age levels of students. This modern facility not only includes a spacious auditorium for performances but also houses the new district offices, a band room, and a vocal room. The band room also serves as a “hardened space” featuring storm glass windows which allow the room to double as a safe area during weather-related emergencies and further demonstrates the district’s commitment to student safety.
Shared Strength
The 13,000-square-foot space that once housed the middle school has been transformed into a state-of-the-art weight room for the entire district. This modern facility includes cutting-edge fitness equipment, locker rooms, a dedicated training room, and offices providing an environment for strength and conditioning. Designed as a shared space, it offers students and athletes across the district access to top-tier resources for athletic training and physical fitness.
