Refining Design Through Experience
BCDM’s relationship with the district has led to a shared vision for cost-effective, flexible schools that support student success and long-term operational value. Ashbury is one of several recent schools that reflect this evolution—refining design strategies, material choices, and layout efficiencies to serve today’s learners while planning for tomorrow’s needs. The school balances a modern aesthetic with durable, low-maintenance solutions that align with the district’s broader goals for consistency and sustainability across campuses.
Exploring and Evaluating Building Systems
For Ashbury and two similar schools, the district and BCDM collaboratively explored three distinct building envelope systems—precast concrete, insulated concrete forms (ICF), and traditional masonry. This deliberate comparison turned the projects into a real-world case study, providing valuable insight into how construction systems impact long-term operational costs, energy performance, and maintenance needs. These learnings continue to guide district-wide decision-making and reinforce BCDM’s role as a trusted design partner.
