Milo Bail Student Center Renovation

Vibrant hub of student activity and interaction

The BCDM and Perkins+Will team was retained to provide design work on renovating the Milo Bail Student Center at the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus. The major goal of the project is to transform the currently closed-off, hard-to-navigate, and relatively bleak facility into a vibrant hub of student activity and interaction — all while keeping the building operational throughout the construction process.

Client:

University of Nebraska at Omaha

Location:

Omaha, NE

Budget:

$15,900,000

Year:

2016

Upgrades and renovations

The design began with updating a variety of code-compliance upgrades to stairs, fire walls, and other building features. The team examined and complete officed renovations/re-configurations of many of the student services and business affairs departments throughout the building.

Improved flow

A new three-story atrium with stairs and elevators was incorporated to improve the flow of students through the building and help with way finding through the building. The introduction of a new, contemporary concept café and convenience store marketplace on the first floor of the building provided a great student destination. On the second floor, the Maverick Café overlooks the atrium space with a “sports bar” flavor.
