Liberty Middle School

Papillion La Vista Community Schools

Papillion, NE

2016 Completion

$19.4 Million

As the cities of Papillion and La Vista grow so has Papillion La Vista Community School’s need for a new middle school.  Liberty Middle School is a brand new middle school designed to accommodate multiple potential additions in the future.  The school has the flexibility to add a third team to both grade levels or add an additional grade level (6th or 9th Grades, depending on needs).

The 7th and 8th grade core and special education classrooms are within two separate but symmetrical wings along the south end of the building.  Shared administrative offices, instrumental and vocal music classrooms, computer labs and a media center are centrally located between the two wings.

The design celebrates sustainability through the maximization of natural daylight into classrooms and large public spaces.  At the south facing classrooms, exterior sunshades control glare while also working with interior lightshelves to reflect natural light onto the ceilings and deeper within the rooms, creating a more pleasing learning environment as well as saving energy.  The LED light fixtures within the classrooms are tied to an automatic dimming system that monitor and adjust the artificial light levels based on the natural lighting within the spaces.  This feature provides energy efficiency while also creating comfortable light levels within the spaces.
